I was given 11 establishing shots where I had to restore an old monastery and make it look almost new, and to remove modern buildings and cars. Also, in one shot I had to change a big mass of eucaliptus for autochthonous trees.

I worked for 2 years in this movie. I started as texture and shading artist, working on main characters, props and sets.

After that my role as Lighting Lead -although more a TD than a lead- was to develop the main toolbar for the lighting department, other automation scripts, and solving other issues.

Then I worked as a Matte Painter until the end of the production, mainly dealing with 360º 20,000 px wide mattes for whole secuences, creating lots of camera mappings for grounds and landscapes, and helping with technical aspects of matte painting.

Matte Paintings

These are mainly 360º matte paintings, covering dozens of camera shots. For speeding up the process, only were painted those areas with more coverage or importance from the camera view, while the rest remained simpler.

Camera mappings

Art director wanted crispy and richful detail in grounds and vegetation, but modeling and shading was not enough to satisfy this requirement. The solution was to use camera projections, repainting all terrains, and grouping the shots by the camera view in order to try to reuse projections and mattes. I was responsible of all this work, doing about the 75% of all these camera mappings.

"Copito de Nieve" in spanish, is a film in production to be released in 2010, about the mythical white gorilla. Filmax asked me to do a promotional poster to promote the film among distributors and clients. So this is a very very early preview of the film. In fact, I doubt that anything but the title will remain the same in the film.

For the matte painting department, I designed the pipeline and created MEL scripts (fast switching of cameras, automatic domes, and a UI for Camera Mapping process).
For the art department, I worked on prop color studies and lighting keys for several secuences.

This is a low-budget B movie by joung but promising director Javi Camino, from Santiago (Spain). My work was to do all the vfx and matte paintings needed, with a very low budget and resources. After Effects was the tool of choice.
